Sunrise – among the Best Views in Rome
Start off at the beginning of the day before the heat takes over and the crowds come out in force. Head to Terrazza Di Gianicolo for spectacular views of the sunrise. This gives magnificent panoramic vistas over the whole city. You will be well rewarded for the early start.
From here, as the sun comes over the horizon you will be able to spot some of Rome’s famous attractions. These include St Peter’s Basilica and of course the Pantheon, as well as the famous Colosseum.

Sunset – the Best Views of Rome?
Amazing sunset photos can be taken in many places around Rome, however one of our favourites has got to be at Castel Sant’Angelo. The Castel affords amazing 360-degree views over Rome, and if caught in the right light is simply spectacular. Head to the terrace under the statue

Best overall view of Rome
Head to the Borghese Gardens, situated within the Vatican for one of the best overall views of Rome. The best view is from the Pincio Terrace. You can access the Borghese Gardens and Villa on a special guided tour if you want to see the galleries in detail, and there are limited numbers allowed in at any one time. The view of Rome is however the main attraction. You will get sweeping views of Rome from here, including St Peter’s Basilica and beyond.

Vatican, one of the Best views in Rome
One of the best views of the Vatican is from within St Peters’ Basilica. You will look down over St Peters’ square with its amazing Egyptian Obelisk. You will also have views of the Via della Conciliazione, the Castel St Angelo and the river Tiber.
Climb the 231 steps upward to the first level (you can also take an elevator here). Then, there are an additional 320 steps to the top. Take your camera here and expect to see some fabulous sights stretching for miles around.
When – The dome opens at about 8am. This is the best time to go, as it is not crowded at all. It closes at 5pm in the low season, and 6pm from April to September.
