Sunrise – among the Best Views in Rome

Start off at the beginning of the day before the heat takes over and the crowds come out in force. Head to Terrazza Di Gianicolo for spectacular views of the sunrise. This gives magnificent panoramic vistas over the whole city. You will be well rewarded for the early start.

From here, as the sun comes over the horizon you will be able to spot some of Rome’s famous attractions. These include St Peter’s Basilica  and of course the Pantheon, as well as the famous Colosseum.

When – Sunrise in July is just after 5am, in October it is just after 7am

Sunset – the Best Views of Rome?

Amazing sunset photos can be taken in many places around Rome, however one of our favourites has got to be at Castel Sant’Angelo. The Castel affords amazing 360-degree views over Rome, and if caught in the right light is simply spectacular. Head to the terrace under the statue

When – Sunset – it means the sun will have shifted enough that the glare will not impinge any photos taken towards the south

Best overall view of Rome

Head to the Borghese Gardens, situated within the Vatican for one of the best overall views of Rome. The best view is from the Pincio Terrace. You can access the Borghese Gardens and Villa on a special guided tour if you want to see the galleries in detail, and there are limited numbers allowed in at any one time. The view of Rome is however the main attraction.  You will get sweeping views of Rome from here, including St Peter’s Basilica and beyond.

When – whenever you want!
